Project Overview

The Solar for Samoa PV project is situated over two locations; Faleata Racecourse (1.4MW AC) is located in the capital city of Apia, while Faeolo International Airport (2.1MW AC) is located approximately 40 kilometres west of Apia.

The 3.5MW AC project is powered by approximately 47,000 First Solar advanced thin film PV modules and supplies power to the Electric Power Corporation. The plant is helping Electric Power Corporation achieve its renewable energy targets, and the electricity produced by the solar farm offsets a portion of existing diesel-generated electricity, saving approximately 1,900,000 liters of diesel per year, and displacing approximately 5,115 tons CO2 per year.

The project company, Solar for Samoa Ltd, is majority owned by First Solar with a local Samoan investor as a minority shareholder.

The project started construction in mid-2015 and commenced commercial operation in the first half of 2016.
